The Nordic Address Forum 2009 was assembled at Hotel Reynihlíð by Lake Mývatn on the 10th and 11th of June. Fasteignaskrá Íslands hosted the event this year and 30 participants from Scandinavian institutions and organizations that have to do with addresses attended the Forum.

In Iceland there is no tradition for cadastral maps which has led to problems in locating real properties and to ensure ownership of land. Geocoding of Address repositories is especially important due to two reasons:
- To locate access point of Addresses and thus create spatial addresses. This is needed both for internal use of the Fasteignaskrá Íslands in real property appraisal and also as a public dataset utilized by emergency services and for contingency plans for example.
- To synchronize Address repositories within the public sector to ensure compatibility.
This year the main emphasize was on two highly relevant topics, namely „European cooperation” and „Use of addresses and Data Quality Control“. In the first theme the impact of the INSPIRE process as well as of the EURADIN project for the Nordic countries’ address systems and address data was discussed. In the second theme it became evident that many similarities are between the Nordic countries in utilization and distribution of address data for the benefit of society.
The forum was a great success both in regards to the forum outcome and the social event as well. Nothing stands in the way of using the information gained in bettering our address repository and cooperation between the institutions within each country and within the Scandinavian countries.
